SMAE Students Show Their Talent in Intelligent Manufacturing Once Again

Date:2021-08-20

The 15th“Siemens Cup” China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge (CIMC) under the Ministry of Education of China successfully held its national preliminary contest between 20 July and 24 July, 2021. More than 10,000 participating teachers and students in 6,000 teams from nearly 700 universities nationwide had fierce competition. Among them, JLU teachers and students of the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (SMAE) and the College of Communications Engineering teamed up to participate in contests in the category of “Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Design and Application”, including specific fields in CNC digital twins-virtual commissioning, intelligent production line and collaborative robots, discrete industry automation, and free exploration. After the online and offline competitions, the SMAE team won one grand prize, two first prizes, and one third prize in the north China competition zone.

The contest covered scientific and technological innovation, product development, engineering design, intelligent application, etc., in the field of intelligent manufacturing, with an aim to cultivate and select skilled and innovative talents capable of solving complex engineering problems to promote the development of intelligent manufacturing in China. CIMC took enterprises’ real engineering projects and scientific research projects as topics, set venues in real industrial equipment and industrial environment, and examined participants with engineering standards of industrial enterprises, so as to foster students’ comprehensive ability and systematic thinking on all fronts to solve complex engineering problems.

Specifically, both the team (members: An Xihua, Yuan Zhiyi, and Sun Hongzheng) mentored by Hao Wanjun and Wang Hongyi in the field of “Intelligent Production Line and Collaborative Robots”, and the team (members: You Linjing, Liu Longchang, and Guo Junnan) mentored by Sun Huichao and Liu Haizhong in the field of “CNC Digital Twins-Virtual Commissioning” advanced to the national contest. The joint team mentored by Cheng Lili also won the first and second prizes.

It is the first time forSMAE teachers and students in the majors of Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering and Mechanical Engineering to participate in the “Siemens Cup” CIMC. Although SMAE participants were not familiar with the contest and faced heavy tasks in a limited time, they completed the contest training and practical learning in a short time without affecting their daily studies. Thanks to the strong support from Liang Liang, the person in charge of the contest in JLU, and the effective guidance of SMAE and mentors, these participants achieved excellent performance, which fully reflected their extraordinary learning ability and time management ability.

While focusing on the cultivation of students’ professional ability, the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering attaches more importance to guiding their patriotism, innovation ability, management ability, and global vision. To meet national and industrial strategic needs of developing new engineering, SMAE aims to cultivate a batch of quality and compound talents in intelligent manufacturing engineering who are equipped with moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, work skills, adaptability to an interdisciplinary environment, and international competitiveness.
